Ramy Amin
I work on philosophy of science, computation, and AI, with a focus on computational explanation, physical computation, and the role of abstraction and idealization in cognitive and neuroscience.
Research
My research focuses on computational explanation in cognitive science, neuroscience, and AI. In my dissertation, Deflating the Computational Mind, I examine whether the explanatory success of computational models depends on the brain literally implementing computations, and I defend a more deflationary account of how computational approaches explain.
